As we begin to really hone in on the class of 2024 Travis
Upchurch is arguably the best combo scoring guard in the 2024 class. He is an
intelligent player with great leadership skills and a coach's feel for running
a team. He has great pace to his game and rarely puts himself in position to
force a bad play. He has a short memory for good or bad plays and believes his
next move will be his best move. His elite level athleticism and quickness
combined with high percentage decision making are what sets him apart from his
peers. He is a consistent 3-point shooter that forces defenders to play close
giving him the advantage to penetrate into the paint; he is able to create and
take the shot at this young age off the bounce easily.
Defensively, he is equally as dominant. He understands
angles and is relentless pressuring the ball. Great first step to gain an
advantage on his defender. He is also a great drive, draw and kick passer when
he attacks the lane at high speeds and he growing into a lengthly lane
disruptor as well – we may be looking at the special and unique combination of
elite scorer and defensive stopper a combination that every coach at any level
wants on their roster.
Upchurch took home the MVP Award in his class at the
Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp cementing himself as a upper echelon
prospect moving forward but in addition to that Upchurch was also honored as
the Best Prospect and if that wasn’t enough Upchurch’s camp team also took down
the championship leading to a literal handful of hardware leaving DC and
heading back to Connecticut with the budding superstar.
Upchurch was a known commodity but this
weekend showed the work he has been putting in and position him as a hire gun
for anyone looking to add an assassin to their roster – look to hear a lot more
in the coming months from Travis Upchurch this kid is definitely UP NEXT.
