USA National Select
vs. Detroit Doughboys (2024) – Several runs, lead changes,
and some big time shooting performances highlighted this championship match-up
won by National Select 46-43. The
Doughboys opened with a 9-2 run knocking down 3 straight 3-pointers; National
Select battled their way back cutting the lead to 5 at 25-20 before the
half. Down the stretch the game remained
close and was tied at 40 late in the game.
Defensive stops and made free-throws closed the deal for National Select
in one of the games of the weekend.
Team Takeover vs. Team Glory Elite
(2021) – This heavy weight battle has long been a local rivalry
and this one didn’t disappoint. Some of
the top players in the country stepped onto the floor but TTO went down early
as Zion Harmon by himself was only down 1; 16-17 at the half, but the Glory
squad lead 26-17. With a standing room
only crowd Trevor Keels and Darius Johnson led the 2nd half charge
combining for 22-points in the 2nd half. As the game approached its
end the teams continued to trade baskets, ending regulation tied. The same could be said after the first OT;
the score remained tied – at the end of the 2nd OT Johnson saw
daylight and drove down the lane finishing at the cup. Harmon had one last look at the buzzer as he
went for the win, the ball rimmed out giving TTO the victory 55-53 another DMV
classic.
Bmore Finest vs. Annandale Bulldogs
(2021) – What could top a back and forth battle and a double OT
thriller? Only a buzzer beater to win
the game – this game too also featured a second half comeback as the Finest
were down at the half 18-8 as the Bulldogs played suffocating defense. With a balanced attack BMF clawed their way
back into the game and found their selves down two with seconds to go; setting the
stage for the winning shot which came from roughly 40-feet out to win. Saveon & Christian for Annandale starred
in this exciting affair dropping 14points 8 rebounds, and 10-points and 7
rebounds respectively.
