All-Ohio 2019: Big Red Machine Has the Country Seeing Red - AGAIN!!!!

Top teams and programs in the country don’t rebuild they retool; rumors of the demise the 2019 All-Ohio Red have been grossly over stated.  Not only is AOR 2019 still in the game, the strong is getting stronger for the upcoming 2015 season.

Coming off of back-to-back NYBL Champions in the toughest and most respected middle school league in the country as well as a 3rd place finish at Nationals AOR 2019 has a resume and body of work that is respected by anyone and everyone on the national circuit.

Jeremiah Francis #7 in Country
All-Ohio Red and their collection of talent who has grown accustomed to winning at a high level  will be lead again this year by All-World National Ranked PG Jeremiah Francis (#7) who has expanded his already potent game by adding another gear and bigtime offensive prowess that includes added speed, scoring range, and consistency to the stroke and mechanics.  Francis who has long displayed elite level court vision must be accounted for with the ball in his hands as a scorer now; which the unselfish lead guard will only use to his advantage in finding his talented teammates in the spots where they are the most effective.  Teammates such as Demarco Bradley, Andre Gordan, Amari Davis, Chris’Seon Springer, and Gerald Reynolds were also bigtime contributors to last year’s team.

Player departures and acquisitions of course always affect the landscape and its looks like Red isn’t standing pat as they have made two major moves this off-season landing 6’7 Combo Forward Taylor Currie and Combo Guard 6’1 Marcus Curtis.

Taylor Currie
Taylor Currie who previously played for Spiece Next Level of out Fort Wayne has relocated to Westerville, Ohio and fallen right into the capable hands of Coach Bradley and Coach Francis.  Currie who will man the frontline for AOR, has dramatically improved his scoring range and scoring package – exemplifying his improvement is his current averages of 22ppg, 8rbs, & 5 bpg so far this year, showing he is more than capable of being a bigtime contributor to the Red’s success this season.  Taylor is looking forward to the opportunity to play up against elite level competition with AOR’s rigorous national schedule and will be focusing with the assistance of the coaching staff on further developing his face-up game and putting the ball on the floor from the wing.  If prior performance is any indication of future prestige - than we expect Currie to be getting the job done on a very high level very soon with Bradley and Francis on the scene.

Marcus Curtis
That’s not all folks; enter Marcus Curtis who will push both Jeremiah and Demarco in the backcourt; the 6’1 combo guard is in the building joining Red after competing with OBC Adidas Elite last year.  For Curtis joining AOR has been a long time goal and he doesn’t plan to play around with the opportunity.  Curtis who fell in love with head man Coach Bradley upon meeting up at the NIKE City Series already feels a part of the AOR family and can’t wait to display his skill set on the circuit.  Currently in Ohio Curtis is pumping in 25ppg each time out combined with 5asp and 6rpg.  He attributes his elite scoring ability to the last years development of a “killer instinct” – a take no prisoners approach that forces defenses to respect and account for him each and every possession.  Marcus who is focused on preparing for the next level looks forward to expanding his over all game; handle, court vision, pace while playing within the “Swiss army knife” like system of AOR; where many high level players have excelled.

For those hoping that they wouldn’t have to deal with All-Ohio Reds talented personnel grouping, intense defensive pressure, and high level coaching staff; they look to be back and stronger than ever.  We apologize in advance for any L’s you may have to take on account of the Big Red Machine as this group is used to winning and simply wouldn’t put a product out that they didn’t expect to do so at a very high level.

Zion "The Lion" Harmon, Pound for Pound Champ Roars In Amzaing Return to Basketball Spotlight Tournament Circuit

The Pound for Pound Champion of youth basketball returned to Hoop Group Headquarters in Tinton, NJ, this time for the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic.  Zion Harmon (USA National Select, Unlimited Glory, Slam City Elite) is the best and most productive basketball player without consideration of class or grade in the country.  There was no other player at 5’4 and 100 lbs soaking wet as talented and fearless as Harmon.

In the recent Tip Off Classic Harmon averaged 27ppg, 4apg, and 6rbg.  But the stats alone don’t tell the story of how much bigger his spirit was compared to his rather small frame on intense and insane weekend schedule logging minutes for two championship squads at the 2021 and 2020 level.  He’s a jump shooter and a slasher, constantly and consistently weaving his way into the paint, a land of giants, as he fearlessly takes the ball to the rack – finishing creatively and with an array and multitude of many different moves.  As per usual, it seemed his butt spent more time on the floor than his feet on the court.  But he always popped back up and you know what he did on the very next offensive possession, he went back into the forest of guys sometimes a foot taller and 50+ lbs heavier than him looking for a score and did it with much success.

When he grew “tired” of making a living in the painted area you could find him dialing it up from a another area code with his in the gym range knocking down three’s that made the fans in the gym gasp, laugh, and his opponents moan.

The Legend of Harmon has taken on such form that many pundits, players, and gym rates have ceased to call him by his given name of Zion – rather referring to him by his Assassins nickname “The Lion”.  It’s a nickname where if you called him that he would give you a little more attention; knowing that you have seen or heard of him before.

However, it wasn’t just what Harmon does on the basketball court that makes him such a well-known, interesting, intriguing, hated, misunderstood, despised, and loved figure. “The Lion” is one of the most polarizing kids many will have the pleasure of coming to know.   The phenomenon of showing negativity to a child has never so shameful or apparent and with this player.  Coach Francis, Scout and coach for USA National and Slam City who has worked with many of the nation’s best, first documented over two years ago Harmon’s status as the #1 player in the class said when reached for comment “ …the kid has been ridiculed for nothing more than trying the be the best he can be and making his team the best they can be” he closed by saying “….if there is something wrong that should be criticized on any level with that mindset especially in a child, then the person speaking it should be evaluated”.

They have said he is too old, they have said he was too small, they have said can’t run a team, he can’t play with other great players; he can’t play against older kids his game doesn’t translate.  His age has been verified, Harmon turns 13 in 2015, and he has competed against high school freshmen and sophomores as early as fifth grade and was still named by Big Shots Tournaments as an event top performer.  He has played the point guard position on with his Slam City club, various all-star leagues proving that theory wrong.  So of course the next statement is that he can’t do it on the elite level ~ he has partnered as part of a National Select Team group with multiple top players in the country proving that he can play with the very best in the game and his own peers have walked away expressing their respect for his game and their personal enjoyment for playing aside him – this biggest compliment a player at any level can receive.

In what may have been one of the classiest moves in recent memory, Tournament Director and Owner of Basketball Spotlight Mike – who was so impressed with the weekend performance of Harmon presented him with actual event banner!  Advising Harmon to take due to his amazing antics that Melton not only witness but honored with the gift - Melton who has seen multiple pro’s players and high level collegians come through his events said a lot by this gesture.  Seeing the look on Harmon’s face the least of which is that Melton is about the kids in his event and additionally that Melton two who named Harmon #1 on his Spotlight ranking also see and appreciates the level of talent “The Lion” possesses.

Is Harmon the best to ever lace them up?  Will he be the best next year or at the high school level?  Who knows and if we did know that a big target and way too much pressure to put on a child – these are all kids and the primary purpose of reinforcing positives and acting as a support mechanism to all Harmon and all kids make it to the highest level they can dream and achieve at the end of the day is the ultimate goal.  So for today let’s celebrate a phenomenal child and person who happens to also be the best of many other great players playing in youth basketball right now – Zion “The Lion” Harmon 2021 and 2020 Basketball Spotlight Tip Off champion and the reigning P2Bball Pound for Pound Champ.

Trey Patterson the Pride of New Jersey Shines at Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic

6'3 Trey Patterson #3 In the Country 2021

Trey Patterson has an incredible combination of size, length, and skill that is almost unprecedented at this early stage of his development. He shoots the ball with deep range, has a high and compact release to get his shot off at virtually any point, and is equally proficient at scoring at an elite level from beyond the stripe, the mid-range, and the foul line.  Needless to say the kid can flat out shoot the rock; often times not even moving the net.

The Pride of the Garden State played in two age groups at the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic leading both his 2021 and playing up a year at 2020, to the championship game.  Along the way Patterson had multiple games were he dropped in 20+ points – scoring very efficiently and shooting an extremely high percentage.  The new tool in the tool box for Trey is his ability to control the painted area – his defensive ability and shot blocking have improved exponentially and one of the kindest soft spoken kids on the circuit is even developing a little bit of a mean streak!

Patterson is big and skilled and from watching him closely his trajectory may be more so of a highly skilled stretch four vs a true wing.  He is a legit 6’3 right now and pushing 6’4 AND HE IS ONLY 12 YEARS OLD FOLKS. He has grown almost two inches since last year and is most certainly not done yet gauging from his big feet and lanky frame.  Parental size and current growth trajectory scream 6’9 at minimum – remember 12 years old; with a functional handle, solid court vision, passing skills, and a knock down jump shot and shot blocking ability.  This package is looking very similar to a Harrison Barns or Terrance Jones versus your traditional scoring three with the biggest notation being the defensive translation and guarding on the defensive end.  Without question as he continues to develop he will have an advantage at the stretch on both ends of the court and frankly will become a match up nightmare long term.

Even with him coming up a little short this weekend at the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic as it pertains to championships – Patterson has nothing to be ashamed of as he did everything you would expect and more from the #3 players in the country ~ with respect to the Garden State  – Trey Patterson you are the their real MVP!
